Pair is seeking an innovative APD Engineer to take charge of the advanced product development process, playing a key role from the ideation to the go-to-market stages of our unique eyewear products. Your responsibilities will include designing and developing eyewear components and assemblies, collaborating on intellectual property matters, and conducting benchmarking of competitive designs and technologies. You'll be expected to innovate, enhance existing products, and contribute to project planning and execution, ensuring each development aligns with our feature, performance, and cost specifications. This role also involves validating performance enhancements, creating prototypes, and working closely with quality teams for fit testing.

What You’ll Do:

  • As an Advanced Product Development Engineer, your responsibilities encompass the comprehensive design and development of eyewear components and assemblies by taking a leadership role in executing projects from their initial ideation phase through GTM.
  • Develop detailed project execution charters for advanced development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Intellectual Property team to safeguard ownership of critical ideas and designs.
  • Conduct benchmarking of competitive designs, processes, materials, and functionalities.
  • Innovates new technologies in alignment with feature, performance, and cost specifications.
  • Envisions and/or implement enhancements to existing products.
  • Contributes to project planning for engineering tasks and estimates timelines.
  • Validates performance enhancements using the scientific method.
  • Create and deploy prototype testing across functional groups.
  • Work with quality to ensure proper fit and fit testing for prototypes.
  • Monitors and communicates project status to relevant cross-functional teams.
  • Travel required, up to 25%, both domestically and internationally.

Who You Are:

  • You are self-motivated and able to manage multiple parallel-path projects
  • You have strong problem-solving skills, and demonstrated leadership skills
  • You have strong communication skills, verbal, visual (such as sketching), and written

Need to Have:

  • Bachelor's degree or greater in engineering related field, relative experience or exceptional ability considered
  • Proficiency in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, including SolidWorks or Rhino
  • Basic understanding of optics with strong algebra skills
  • Mastery of use of shop tools and equipment
  • Highly competent computer skills and use of software such as MS Office, Adobe etc
  • Strong project management abilities, including on-time delivery
  • Experience with and technical knowledge of NPI, ramp, manufacturing, and assembly

Nice to Have:

  • Mastery of electronics and electronic design, including prototyping
  • Experience with motion systems, robotics, and/or linear conveyance
  • Basic programming skills in one of the following Java, C, C++, or Swift.
  • Eyewear development / engineering experience

Salary: $112,000 - $136,000
