Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
(remote; contract)
Perinatal mental health issues are the #1 complication of childbirth and the leading cause of maternal mortality. Mavida Health is an early stage startup providing comprehensive, specialized virtual mental health care for women and birthing people on the path to parenthood. Mavida provides clinical care - 1:1, couples/family and group therapy, plus medication management and prescribing - in addition to educational content and supportive community engagement to those trying to conceive, pregnant, experiencing loss, or in the postpartum period. We are hiring a licensed psychiatric nurse practitioner to support our clinical team as we grow and expand operations.

Preferred Days/Hours (negotiable): M-F, availability 12p-5p PT
All work will be remote - meetings will be held virtually.
Professional equipment to facilitate virtual care (e.g., laptop) must be provided by contractor.
What are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will be dedicated, self-starting, and eager to learn. Through our expert-led training, they will have the opportunity to become specialized in perinatal or reproductive mental health, with a specific focus on treating those on the path to parenthood.
The successful candidate is someone who
- Has a genuine passion for supporting women and birthing people during the crucial stages of parenthood.
- Is committed to cultivating cultural humility, increasing personal awareness, and enhancing cultural competency to effectively serve a diverse patient population
- Has the ability to build strong therapeutic relationships with clients and their families.
- Is adaptable and open to learning and growth. They should be willing to embrace new technologies and approaches to virtual mental health care.
- Actively engages in meetings, and contributes to the innovation and growth of the clinical team.
- Has a commitment to ongoing education and professional development, including staying up-to-date with the latest research and treatment modalities in perinatal mental health.
- Has high ethical standards and maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to all relevant laws and regulations governing psychiatric nursing practice.
- Has strong communication skills, as all work will be conducted remotely; should be able to convey complex medical information in a clear and understandable manner (or willingness to grow in that area).
- Is comfortable with the technology and/or willing to learn new technologies to facilitate patient-centered virtual care
What is the role?
The Psychiatric NP will:
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments of patients, including reviewing medical histories, performing mental status examinations, and formulating diagnoses.
- Develop individualized treatment plans for patients, including prescribing appropriate medications, therapy, and other interventions.
- Provide evidence-based, patient-centered psychiatric care to individuals, with a focus on women's health or perinatal health issues.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, therapists, and social workers, to coordinate patient care and ensure holistic treatment.
- Monitor and adjust treatment plans as necessary based on patients' progress, side effects, or changing clinical needs.
- Provide education and counseling to patients and their families regarding mental health conditions, treatment options, and wellness strategies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including electronic health records (EHR), in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Stay current with best practices, research, and developments in psychiatric nursing and women's health, sharing knowledge with the team as appropriate.
- Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing psychiatric nursing practice.
Requirements:
- Valid and active New York Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner license.
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
- Ability to work independently in a 100% virtual environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on patient-centered care.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other healthcare software.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and upholding ethical standards.
Ideally, the candidate displays the following characteristics:
- Licensure in more than just one of the states listed (NJ, NY, CA) is preferred
- Experience working in women’s health or perinatal mental health
- A flexible and curiosity-based approach to problem-solving
- Self-starter with a passion for women’s health
- Ability to work independently and problem solve while participating in a team environment
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills

CEO and Co-FounderSarah Oreck is Columbia-trained psychiatrist with a fellowship in reproductive psychiatry. Frustrated with the current state of perinatal mental health care, Sarah dreamt up MAVIDA Health as a way to leverage technology to provide increased access to better mental health care during the maternity journey. She has operated private practices in CA and NY states as well as consulting for several femtech companies. She frequently contributes as an expert to media articles on reproductive mental health and has garnered a large following on social media with her educational content.
COO and Co-FounderEmma Sugerman has made her career in behavioral health tech, having led strategy and operations teams for Headspace, LifeStance Health, and Charlie Health. Emma is passionate about increasing access to and affordability of mental health care, leveraging her early years at Optum to build new, more scalable solutions that fit within existing paradigms.
